Christmas holidays are coming and Milan goes big: 35 kilometres of Christmas lights spread around 180 city streets, but – above all – the famous markets and traditional Christmas fairs. Fragrance of fritters, quality handcraft and green or fair trade sections: for food lovers, tourists and stragglers!
OH BEJ! OH BEJ!
The oldest Christmas market has a curious name, almost Arabic for those living out of Milan. It is actually a recall to the dialect tradition and to the shouts of joy of the Milanese children, amazed from the beauty of the booths and their products.
Historically placed near Sant’Ambrogio, the Oh bej! Oh bej! take now place in Piazza Castello (Castello Square): 25.000 square metres of handcraft, gift ideas and food – possibly fried!
L’ARTIGIANO IN FIERA
Another long-standing reference, the Artigiano in Fiera, counts every year an exponential growth in visitors. From December 2nd to December 10th, at Fieramilano Rho – Pero, hundreds of exhibitors make you experience a world tour: in fact, besides the finest Italian products, they also come from all around the world.
Various events and cooking courses spice up the fair throughout the whole duration.
CHRISTMAS MARKET IN PIAZZA DUOMO
Like every year during Christmas time, The Duomo Square turns red. Between Corso Vittorio Emanuele and via Arcivescovado you will find several Christmas decorations, gift ideas and plenty to eat. The Christmas market has also a cultural purpose: part of the income, in agreement with the Veneranda Fabbrica, will be used for the restoration of the Dome’s spires. The appointment is from December 9th to January 6th.
You can reach the Dome market by foot from our Valpetrosa and Morone Apartments.
GAE AULENTI CHRISTMAS VILLAGE
From December 1st to January 7th Gae Aulenti Square will turns into a Christmas village. In the suggestive location of the Garibaldi district there will be exhibitions, cuisine products, handicrafts and shows for children. And all with an ice-skating rink at your disposal.
You can easily reach the Gae Aulenti Christmas Village by foot from our Maroncelli Apartment.
On 16 and 17 December, in the heart of the old Isola district, the Fonderia Napoleonica is hosting the Green Christmas. Organic products, sustainable and objects made out of used materials will be exposed within a jewel of the industrial archaeology. It will be also possible to visit the museum, with a lot of curiosities about the place where the Dome’s doors were built.
Are you ready to dive into the city streets and to breathe the holidays’ atmosphere? You’ll just have to choose your favourite Christmas market!
